Elephant
Grace in shadow
Elephants are the largest land mammals, known for intelligence, memory, and tight family bonds. Their presence shapes the landscape as they move through it. Their magnificence is beyond compare. My focus is on elephants in motion — matriarchs leading herds, calves exploring, and bulls in solitary journeys.Photographing elephants means working with scale and light. Their size dominates, but it’s the smaller gestures — a trunk touch, a calf’s first steps — that tell the deeper story. In the Serengeti, elephants walk with open savannah as a backdrop. In Kruger and Sabi Sands, I have followed herds at dusk and dawn as dust rose around them, turning the air golden.
